Andros South Lodge (www.androssouth.com)
May 2009
I’m not sure what it was with rain this spring on Traveling Angler trips, but rain was a problem on this trip as well. As a matter of fact, on the first day of fishing some of the boats headed back to the lodge because the thunderstorms were so bad. Some boats stayed out, however, and caught fish during and between downpours.
As in Belize, one of the goals of this trip was to train the guides to tag bonefish and take fin clips. Bonefish were tagged and fin clipped on all of our fishing days. All of the anglers took part. In addition to the BTT crew, there were anglers there from the Mangrove Coast Fly Fishers club, and some of them helped by taking fin clips from bonefish.
If you’ve never been to South Andros, you should. The fishing is spectacular. You can either fish the large schools of smaller fish (2 – 4 pounds) on the open flats, and have a realistic shot at more than 30 bonefish per day, or stalk larger fish (to 8 pounds) in the creeks and backcountry. And during all this not see any other anglers (or even other people) all day.
This was the second year we made a trip to Andros South, and hope to again soon. Contact
