It’s going to take research and constant vigilance to ensure catches like this bonefish by Michael Kelly off Bimini.

RESEARCH
As mentioned in other parts of the web site, BTU’s goal is to support research to help understand, nurture, and enhance healthy bonefish and tarpon populations. To this end, from it’s beginning, BTU has supported research to increase our knowledge of bonefish and tarpon – information that is vital to formulating effective conservation and management plans. BTU’s support of essential research continues. To learn more about the previous and ongoing research being supported by BTU, see our Research Programs. For a summary of our present status of knowledge of bonefish, tarpon, and permit, and to see the priority needs for research, visit the BTU Framework!

MEMBERSHIP
Membership is the core to BTU’s efforts. We’re making great progress in learning more about bonefish and tarpon. The research we are supporting is essential to the conservation of bonefish and tarpon, but we need your help. Much of the funding to support this groundbreaking research comes from you. Your membership donations are the backbone to this effort. Not only do your donations contribute directly to research of bonefish and tarpon, we have been able to use our membership donations to attract thousands of dollars in additional donations. It’s critical that we maintain this momentum. We need you to renew your membership to keep these efforts going. Please become a new member or renew today.

FUNDRAISING
Our member contributions help us to attract even more funds to support research. These additional funds come from members who contribute at higher levels, from foundations and corporations that support BTU’s efforts, and from government grants. In many instances, our members have helped BTU make contact with foundations and corporations that have become valuable BTU supporters. Without memberships and fundraising, BTU would be unable to support research and conservation.

SYMPOSIA
BTU has sponsored two international symposia (2003 and 2006) that have gathered scientists from around the world to share their research on bonefish, tarpon, and permit, and to formulate plans for the future. True to BTU’s mission to share information with anglers, these symposia have been open to fishermen – educated fishermen make the best BTU supporters and the best conservationists. BTU is proud to have sponsored these symposia, and plans to sponsor a third symposium in late 2008 or early 2009.
